Introduction to Mentoring Workshop

Presented by Julie Judd and Sandra Leane. This workshop will give interpreters of all levels an introduction to Mentoring. This workshop will also provide strategies of how to provide your team interpreter with constructive and professional feedback to continue to build a friendly working relationship.

Time: 10:00am to 4:00pm

ASLIA members are invited to attend our committee meeting on 03/03/2017. Come along and find out what the ASLIA NSW committee is doing and take the opportunity to catch up with colleagues over drinks and pizza. Following the meeting Alex Jones will present a casual professional development session about the NDIS.

Cancelled: Demand Control Schema (DC-S) - What Is It? (including NAATI presentation on revalidation and news on the INT Project)
Presented by Julie Judd

This interactive workshop will outline the theoretical components of DC-S and the application of the Schema to challenges experienced by participants in their daily practice. This workshop will provide interpreters with the opportunity to discuss and explore ethics, professional conduct and approaches to decision-making in relation to their practice. Including a guest presenter from NAATI on revalidation and news on the INT Project.

ASLIA Special General Meeting

The ASLIA Interim Committee is convening a Special General Meeting on Thursday evening, the 8th June 2017. This event will be hosted at the JML Room at Vicdeaf in Melbourne and will be livestreamed. The purpose of this Special General Meeting is to consider and to adopt the proposed revised Constitution. ASLIA members will receive notice of the Special General Meeting and associated papers. The time of the meeting will be announced by ASLIA.

Tax Tips Workshop

Carnegie Financial Services will once again present a Q&A workshop aimed at getting interpreters ready for tax time, and on the right foot for the financial year ahead. This workshop will be tailored for participants - just submit your questions about taxation and superannuation using the form on the event page by 5:00pm on 16/06/2017. Children's Theatre Interpreting Workshop (a partnered event with Auslan Stage Left)
Presented by Michelle Ashley and James Blyth


What makes our approach to children's theatre different to drama or musicals? What is the purpose of children's theatre - just to entertain? And who is our audience? When do we show, and when do we tell? Michelle Ashley & James Blyth have worked together as interpreter and consultant on a number of children's productions in Melbourne, and will share with you their approaches and strategies when interpreting for children and their families. This workshop will include a mixture of theory and of practical activities. For interpreters and language consultants.

Time: 10:00am to 3:00pm
Location: Australian Theatre For Young People (Walsh Bay)
Cost: $65 for ASLIA members and $75 for non-members

FIT 2017 - Brisbane

The FIT World Congress will take place at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from the 3rd to 5th of August. The theme "Disruption and Diversification" will address the dizzying rate of technological change within the industry and the current challenges it provides for practitioners, service providers and clients alike, through presentations, panel discussions, workshops, tool demonstrations and exhibition, with experts from across the globe. It will take trends and developments in the profession and put them into sharp focus for forging a pathway to the future. ASLIA is one of the organising partners of FIT 2017. ASLIA members receive a reduced cost and further savings with early bird registrations until 13/03/2017.
