Social Haptic Communication Workshop (provided by Able Australia)

Social haptics involves interaction between two or more people in a social context where messages are conveyed using the sense of touch. These messages (or haptics) often involve emotion and facial expression and can also be used to help map out the surrounding environment or describe other visual or auditory information such as art or music. This workshop is a great opportunity to learn how this tactile communication method can be utilised for individuals with sight and/or hearing impairments. For more information please refer to the aslia.com.au events calendar. This workshop is provided by Able Australia.

27th

Religious Interpreting and Frozen Texts Workshop (Central Coast)

Whether you find yourself interpreting Sunday mass or just the occasional wedding, religious discourse comes up for us all. This will occur more frequently as Deaf people begin receiving NDIS funds, increasing their access to community and family life. Join us as we explore some of the customs and language demands unique to this setting. The rote learnt nature of frozen texts often leads to high speed delivery. As interpreters, this can cause us great angst as we attempt to keep up! Benefit from collegial skill and expertise as we work in small groups to translate pieces of popular frozen texts from religious contexts. Refer to the workshop flyer or register via the aslia.com.au events calendar.
